A PUZZLE!
Here’s a famous old English rhyme, in the form of a “riddle” (a puzzle). Can you work out  the answer?

As I was going to St. Ives
I met a man with seven wives.
Each wife had seven bags,
Each bag had seven cats,
Each cat had seven kittens.
Kittens, cats, bags and wives,
How many were going to St. Ives?

The answer is not hard to find; but can you explain your answer in English?

For each of the following pairs of words, find a common three letter word to complete the end of the first word, and the start of the second. For example:
For O  and CIL, the missing three-letter word is PEN:
(OPEN and PENCIL).
