 Similes with "as"

Intermediate English games

as...asEnglish is full of picturesque expressions, which turn ordinary adjectives into more interesting phrases.  Some of these are quite obvious, others are not.

A "simile" is an expression that compares things using the words "like" or "as" : for example
      As black as night .
This one is very easy to understand !

Here are ten more well-known "similes" using common English adjectives. Unfortunately our silly student Sam Scatterbrain has got them mixed up....   Try to correct the expressions : some are quite obvious, others are not.  All the words you need are in a different simile, where they are crossed out.

  1. This suitcase is as light as a  brick.
  2. The children were all as good as  a cucumber .
  3. When the fire-alarm sounded, everyone got out as quick as  snow.
  4. This exercise is as easy as  snail .
  5. The cake she baked was as hard as a pie.
  6. The Delta region is as flat as a   feather.
  7. The new singer is as cool as a   whistle .
  8. He's always last to finish: he's as slow as a  flash.
  9. The walls had just been repainted, and they were as white as a pancake.
  10. I've washed this pot three times, and now it's as clean as a gold .
