Using colours for picturesque English

When we're talking or writing, we often use metaphors to add colour to our language. Some of these metaphors actually contain adjectives of colour! Can you sort out the missing colours in these common metaphors: each metaphor is followed by its explanation in "normal" language?

Here are the colours you will need to complete the sayings.

black, blue, blue, green, purple, red, red, white
